Wisconsin Three-peats Midwest Regional
Midwest Collegiate Wakeboard Regionals –
September 21-23, 2012
College wakeboarding kicked off its tournament season this past weekend in Muncie, Indiana. The Midwest Collegiate Wakeboard Regional competition was the first out of five total regional competitions throughout the United States. Each of these five competitions is the national qualifier event for that specific region. The three teams to come out on top at each regional competition move on to Collegiate Wakeboard Nationals, which is held in the spring.
The Midwest Collegiate Wakeboard Regional brought out five teams from four different Midwest universities: Ball State University, Indiana University, Ohio State University, and two teams from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The competition was held at The Waterbowl, a local spot for the Ball State riders, where most teams took advantage of the free camping. The teams endured some cold nights at the event site, but they were treated to a free Gene Deer concert on Saturday night.
Although nights in Muncie were cold, The Waterbowl made for some great riding. Competitors put up with only a little wind and some cool air throughout the weekend. The good conditions reflected in the final team scores. Respectively, Ohio State University earned 5th place with 345 points. UW-Madison Team 2 earned 4th place with 445 points. Indiana University placed 3rd with 470 points. Ball State University snagged 2nd place with 490 points. Lastly, UW-Madison Team 1 swept the competition with a nearly perfect score of 665 points, a three-peat national qualifier victory for the school.
